Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team in Berkeley, CA. This position is part of a growing team. It will ideally suit a mechanical design engineer with experience in 3D modeling, 2D drafting, structural analysis, cost and mass-down efforts, disciplined engineering rigor, and taking a design into high-volume production.
You're eager to dive deep into technical challenges, can work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities, and are willing to roll up your sleeves, do hands-on prototyping, and work collaboratively and cross-functionally with test, SIE, manufacturing, supply chain, and other teams.
Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
- Design, prototype, and own the release of components to meet performance and functional requirements, with a focus on manufacturability, weight, performance and cost
- Drive design release process (CAD/BOM, change management, documentation) and lead DFMEA development, risk identification, and risk mitigations.
- Manage supplier communications and partner with manufacturing engineering to transition designs from prototype to high-volume production
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and develop interface requirements and integrated solutions
- Own validation and compliance testing, ensuring component performance, reliability, and readiness for release
- Support line bring-up activities, including hands-on fabrication and testing of first-of-a-kind prototypes to validate design decisions
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) with 5+ years of industry experience engineering, designing and releasing systems and sub-systems through product lifecycle.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting ( any CAD software, preferably Solidworks or CATIA)
- Understanding of GD&T.
- Experience designing and optimizing systems for form, fit and function.
- Strong fundamentals in first-principles engineering and design rigor. Ability to balance performance, manufacturability, and cost
- Experience designing plastic components across a range of resins and manufacturing processes
- Experience with DFMEA and DVPs
- Excellent communication skills with strong organizational and cross-functional collaboration capabilities
- Experience taking products from early-stage development through production
