About the role

Turn Data into Better Decisions as a Data Consultant with CBO

Work on real client challenges. Develop your skills. Build your data consulting career.

At CBO, we’re growing our Data Services team and looking for a Data Consultant to join us. You’ll work directly with clients across a wide range of sectors, helping them understand their data, solve real problems and make better use of the information they already have.

We’re looking for someone who already has a good understanding of data - how it is structured, how it is used and where problems with quality, ownership and consistency can arise. You don’t need to know everything. You’ll work alongside experienced consultants and directors, building your technical and consulting capability while taking increasing responsibility for client delivery.

You might currently work as a Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Data Product Owner or BI Developer, or you may have developed strong data experience through project delivery, business analysis, operations or change. We’re interested in the capability you bring and your ability to apply it to different client problems.

What You’ll Do
As a Data Consultant, you’ll work with clients to understand their data challenges and turn them into practical solutions. Depending on the engagement, your work could include:

  • Data discovery and readiness: Help clients understand their data landscape, identify risks and gaps, and prepare for business or technology change.
  • Data migration and cleansing: Support data mapping, cleansing, quality improvement and migration activities to help clients move confidently between systems.
  • Reporting and insight: Develop meaningful reporting and dashboards that give clients greater visibility of performance and support better decision-making.
  • Automation and process improvement: Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, improve efficiency and simplify how data moves between people, processes and systems
  • Governance and data management: Help clients improve how data is defined, documented, owned and managed, supporting better quality, consistency and control.

Alongside client delivery, you’ll contribute to the continued development of CBO’s Data Services capability, sharing knowledge, developing reusable approaches and tools, and taking part in training and professional development.

This is a role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail of data but also wants to understand the wider business problem, work directly with clients and develop into a well-rounded Data Consultant.

Requirements

We’re open to people who have developed their data experience through different roles and career paths. You don’t need to be an expert across every area of data, but you should already have a good foundation and be interested in developing a broader data consulting skillset.

We’d like to hear from you if you:

  • Have practical data experience: Experience in one or more areas such as data analysis, BI and reporting, data engineering, integration, automation, data product ownership, migration or governance.
  • Understand data beyond the tools: You can think about how data is structured, used and managed, recognise common quality or consistency issues, and understand how these can affect a wider business or technology change.
  • Enjoy solving problems: You’re curious, analytical and comfortable getting into the detail to understand why something is happening and how it could be improved.
  • Can work with clients and stakeholders: You’re comfortable working directly with different people to understand their needs, explain your thinking and contribute to solutions. Previous consulting experience is useful, but not essential.
  • Communicate clearly: You can explain data and technical concepts in a way that makes sense to different audiences and produce clear, well-structured documentation.

Our Technical Toolkit
You don’t need to have experience with all of these tools - what matters most is your willingness to learn and grow. The tools we use will also vary depending on the client and the problem we’re solving.

  • BI & Analytics - Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric
  • Data Engineering - SQL, Azure Data Factory, Databricks
  • Automation & RPA - Power Automate, Python, PowerShell, UiPath
  • Integration - REST APIs, Power Platform, Zapier
  • Governance & QA - DAMA-DMBOK-aligned practices, data dictionaries, lineage tools

Experience with some of these technologies is beneficial, but what matters most is a good understanding of data and the ability to apply that knowledge to different client problems.

Benefits

We offer the chance to grow your career within a trusted, established, and high-performing Channel Islands consultancy.

At CBO, you can expect:

  • A competitive salary, based on experience and capability
  • 25 days annual leave
  • 5 additional days for paid community or charity service
  • 5% employer pension contribution
  • A guaranteed £1,500+ annual training budget for every employee
  • Fully funded professional development and qualifications
  • Access to high-quality equipment and modern office space in Guernsey or Jersey
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements
  • A collaborative, people-first culture where best practice, quality, and shared success come first.

CLOSING DATE: 5th November 2026
