About the role

Who we are

Zus Health is an AI-native healthcare data platform that brings fragmented patient information together to make it complete, current, and actionable. Through our nationwide data network, platform, and intelligent workflows, we help providers, value-based care organizations, payers, life sciences, and digital health companies drive business results, strengthen provider trust, and improve operational efficiency. Founded in 2021 by Jonathan Bush, co-founder and former CEO of athenahealth, Zus is building the foundation for a more connected, precise, and effective healthcare system.

What we’re looking for…

We’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Engineering organization and help build, maintain, and scale the cloud infrastructure that powers the Zus platform. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with cloud technologies, infrastructure automation, modern deployment practices, and is excited to build and support systems that process and deliver health records for millions of patients.

Our core infrastructure is foundational to everything we do at Zus. You’ll work closely with our Platform, Data, and Product Engineering teams to ensure our systems are reliable, secure, scalable, and cost-effective. You’ll help improve our AWS environment, automate infrastructure processes, and build tools that enable our engineers to develop and deploy software efficiently.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, collaborating across teams, and continuously improving the systems that power our platform.

As part of our team, you will...

  • Build, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure supporting the Zus platform and its applications.
  • Work with AWS services such as ECS, Fargate, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, RDS, and other cloud-native technologies.
  • Collaborate with Platform, Data, and Product Engineering teams to support and standardize infrastructure needs, troubleshoot issues, and improve system performance.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.
  • Support, standardize, and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and developer tooling to help engineering teams ship software efficiently.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance and compliance, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to improvements in system reliability and availability.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, optimize cloud costs, and improve infrastructure efficiency.
  • Partner with Engineering and Security teams to implement cloud security best practices and maintain a secure environment that meets our compliance needs.
  • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and ongoing improvements to infrastructure operations.
  • Contribute to infrastructure documentation, technical discussions, and engineering best practices.

You’re a good fit because you...

  • Have 3+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Have hands-on experience working with AWS or another major cloud provider, with a strong interest in deepening your AWS expertise.
  • Have experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Are familiar with containerization and deployment technologies such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes.
  • Have experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, CircleCI, CodeDeploy, or similar technologies.
  • Are comfortable writing scripts and automating workflows using Python, Go, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Understand core cloud infrastructure concepts, including networking, IAM, security, monitoring, and system reliability.
  • Enjoy troubleshooting technical issues, learning new technologies, and finding practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Are a collaborative teammate who enjoys working across engineering teams and sharing knowledge.
  • Are scrappy, move fast, take ownership of your work, and thrive in a growing startup environment.
  • Are excited to help enable a true digital revolution in healthcare.
  • Are in the Boston metro and excited to collaborate in person on a hybrid schedule, or are remote (EST/CST) but willing to travel for in person collaboration occasionally.

It would be awesome if you were...

  • Experienced in supporting large-scale, highly available systems in AWS.
  • Familiar with Go and supporting backend services built in Go.
  • Experienced with ECS, container orchestration, or modern platform engineering practices.
  • Knowledgeable about cloud monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, or Prometheus.
  • Familiar with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or other cloud-based database technologies.
  • Experienced with cloud cost optimization and infrastructure performance improvements.
  • Knowledgeable about application security, SOC 2, HIPAA, HITRUST or other compliance frameworks.
  • Interested in developer productivity, internal tooling, and infrastructure automation.
  • Experienced working with healthcare data, APIs, or interoperability platforms.
  • Familiar with FHIR, HL7, and/or TEFCA standards.

We will offer you…

  • Competitive compensation that reflects the value you bring to the team a combination of cash and equity
  • Robust benefits that include health insurance, wellness benefits, 401k with a match, unlimited PTO
  • Opportunity to work alongside a passionate team that is determined to help change the world (and have fun doing it)

Please Note: Research shows that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds often don’t apply unless they meet 100% of the job criteria. While we have worked to consolidate the minimum qualifications for each role, we aren’t looking for someone who checks each box on a page; we’re looking for active learners and people who care about disrupting the current healthcare system with their unique experiences.

We do not conduct interviews by text nor will we send you a job offer unless you've interviewed with multiple people, including the Director of People & Talent, over video interviews. Job scams do exist so please be careful with your personal information.
