Staff Backend Engineer

Our client is a fast-growing financial technology company.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead the design and build of the core data platform behind a consumer mobile application, owning backend architecture from the ground up. You will be one of a very small group of founding engineers, setting technical direction and delivering systems that remain dependable under heavy load and sudden surges.

What you'll do

- Integrate several third-party data providers and APIs into one dependable backend with fallback options.

- Build an in-house data indexing system to reduce reliance on outside providers.

- Develop real-time streaming infrastructure that delivers live updates to a large user base.

- Architect fast, economical data access and caching layers using a relational database and a major cloud platform, built to withstand demand surges.

- Lead platform feature development and architectural decisions in partnership with product and company leadership.

- Take ownership of backend systems from initial design through production operation.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Experience building and owning backend platforms at well-known brokerage, wallet or mobile trading applications.

- Recent hands-on experience in the crypto domain, roughly 2 to 3 years or more.

- Expertise in Rust or Go.

- Experience indexing on-chain blockchain data.

- Working knowledge of a public cloud provider and a relational database such as PostgreSQL.

- Experience operating WebSocket systems at scale, including through traffic surges.

- Typically 6 to 15 years of engineering experience.

- Strong drive and a winning attitude.

- Legal eligibility to work for the company with no active non-compete agreements.

- Ability to work in North American or European time zones, with Eastern Time preferred.

Bonus points

- Background with consumer-facing products that see heavy daily usage, or with trading products.

- Base salary: USD 225,000 to 300,000 per year
