About the role

About Us:

Founded 20 years ago and headquartered in Chicago, the DV Group of financial services firms has grown to more than 600 people operating throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Since spinning out of a large brokerage firm in 2016, DV Trading has rapidly scaled as an independent proprietary trading firm utilizing its own capital, trading strategies, and risk management methodologies to provide liquidity to worldwide financial markets and hedging opportunities to commodity producers and users. Now, DV group affiliates include two broker dealers, a cryptocurrency market making firm, and a bourgeoning investment adviser.

Overview:

DV is looking for an experienced software developer to work with a small team responsible for development and daily operations of back-office systems that provide services to traders, risk management and accounting.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside other software engineers, risk management, accounting and traders to provide real-time and batch processing of data.
  • Generate daily reports for the firm and traders from overnight data.
  • Design and use of database schemas to facilitate processing of data.
  • Monitoring of daily jobs to ensure timely dissemination of vital information.
  • Ensuring the flow of real-time trade data to provide accurate intraday position and trade data to risk management and traders.

Requirements:

Python at a senior professional level: typing, packaging, concurrency, profiling, and performance tuning

Production ownership of scheduled and batch data systems with hard deadlines (start-of-day and end-of-day processing), including retries, idempotency, alerting, and recovery

Strong SQL and PostgreSQL experience: schema design, migrations, query tuning, data integrity controls

Workflow orchestration experience (Airflow or equivalent) and CI/CD pipelines

Demonstrated quality discipline: automated testing, code review, incident response, runbooks, and post-incident follow-through

Fluency with Atlassian tooling (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) as a daily working environment

Practical experience applying AI: LLM APIs for automation or analysis, and thoughtful use of AI coding assistants with human review

Clear written and verbal communication with non-engineers: operations, accounting, settlements, and middle office staff

Ability to mentor junior and mid-level developers and make sound design decisions independently

Nice to Have:

Trade lifecycle domain knowledge for futures and options: trade capture, allocations, give-ups, clearing, settlements, reconciliation, commissions and fees, margin, PnL

Experience with trading and position platforms (TPOS or similar), broker and clearer file formats, SFTP, and FIX/drop-copy ingestion

Reconciliation and data quality frameworks, and building audit trails

Experience moving legacy jobs and servers onto a cleaner architecture without breaking daily operations

DevOps and SRE foundation: Docker, infrastructure as code, observability (Prometheus, Grafana, structured logging)

On-prem and bare metal infrastructure exposure alongside cloud

Agent patterns: tools, guardrails, human-in-the-loop review

Light front-end skills (internal tools and dashboards)

Benefits:

  • Discretionary bonus eligibility
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • HSA, FSA, and Dependent Care Options
  • Employer Paid Group Term Life and AD&D insurance
  • Voluntary LTD, Life & AD&D insurance
  • Flexible Vacation policy
  • Retirement plan with employer match
