You'll work across a broad range of projects and industries, collaborating with some of the best fire engineering minds in New Zealand and around the world.
And importantly, you'll have a voice.

- Take ownership and provide technical leadership from project inception through to completion.
- Work directly with clients to build relationships, understand their challenges and help them make informed decisions.
- Get out from behind the desk to participate in site visits, inspections and work through real-world challenges.

- Develop future talent, mentoring and support the next generation of fire engineers.
- Think differently to use your technical expertise and creativity to develop practical, innovative solutions.
- Collaborate with highly experienced fire engineers, Fire Protection Engineers and technical specialists across New Zealand and our global network.
- Keep developing access ongoing learning, career development and opportunities to broaden your technical and leadership capability.
- Be part of something bigger, working for a globally recognised consultancy whose purpose is to make the world safe, secure and resilient.
If you're an experienced Fire Engineer who enjoys solving difficult problems, working with clients and having an influence beyond your own projects, this could be the next step you've been looking for.
JOB OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an experienced Fire Engineer to join our Auckland team.
In this role, you'll work across a huge range of different activities, providing technical leadership while helping our clients navigate complex fire safety challenges.
You'll have the opportunity to be involved throughout the project lifecycle—from the early stages of a project, through design and approvals, right through to construction and final inspection.
You'll work closely with clients, project teams, contractors and other technical specialists to develop practical solutions that meet the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant Standards, while also considering the real-world needs of the project.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide key technical input and leadership on fire safety engineering projects from inception through to completion.
- Develop and assess fire engineering solutions that meet relevant New Zealand Building Code requirements and Standards.
- Work directly with clients and project teams to understand challenges, explain technical issues and develop practical solutions.
- Think creatively and challenge conventional approaches where appropriate to achieve the best outcome for the client and the building occupants.
- Participate in site inspections, construction inspections and final inspections.
- Prepare and review technical reports, assessments and other project documentation.
- Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, building professionals, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve client outcomes while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance and technical quality.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry contacts.
- Represent Jensen Hughes at industry events, networking opportunities and client meetings.
- Help grow the Jensen Hughes brand and presence within the New Zealand market.
- Mentor and support developing engineers, helping to build the next generation of fire engineering talent.
- Collaborate with our wider Jensen Hughes team, drawing on expertise from across New Zealand and our global network.
What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have:
- New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Previous experience working in Fire Engineering or Fire Safety Compliance. Ideally a Masters in Fire Engineering.
- Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant fire safety Standards.
- Experience working on fire engineering projects and developing practical solutions to complex problems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to clients and project stakeholders.
- Experience building relationships, networking and managing client relationships.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to work with some of the industry's best technical professionals.
- A willingness to think outside the box and challenge traditional approaches when it delivers a better outcome.
- An interest in mentoring and helping develop less experienced engineers.
- The ability to take ownership of projects while working effectively as part of a wider team.
Why You Should Grow Your Career at Jensen Hughes
You won't just be joining another engineering consultancy.
You'll be joining a global organisation with the scale, expertise and resources to take on some of the world's most challenging safety and risk projects—while still having the opportunity to make a genuine impact locally.
- Work with market-leading clients and on challenging, high-profile projects.
- Collaborate with some of the industry's leading technical experts.
- Have access to a global network of fire engineering expertise.
- Build your client relationships and industry profile.
