About the role
The Payments BR Tribe builds the financial products that Brazilian merchants rely on every day — from card payments and credit transfers to receivables, instalment solutions, and hardware. We sit at the intersection of technology and real merchant needs, designing solutions that fit the way Brazilian businesses actually operate.
As an Engineering Manager, you'll own the technical direction of your squad and the people within it — partnering with a Product Manager to set goals, make the right calls, and deliver payment solutions that Brazilian merchants genuinely depend on.
What you'll do
- Lead at scale: Direct high-performing squads of engineers, focusing on building trust and autonomy within a newly formed team. You'll oversee the development of critical banking services where improving reliability and scalability is a constant priority
- Establish ownership: Actively establish clear ownership and accountability across your squads, ensuring every engineer understands their impact on the platform's availability and peak performance goals
- Strategic partnership: Work in close collaboration with the Product Manager to define OKRs and navigate complex cross-tribe dependencies, ensuring the roadmap and deliveries are aligned with business goals
- Technical excellence: Actively participate in technical decisions, conduct code reviews, and define standards for operational excellence to ensure a top-tier merchant experience
- Global convergence: Spearhead the migration and convergence of our local Brazilian platforms into a global architecture, ensuring our technology scales with our international ambitions and impacts millions of users worldwide
- Quality & culture: Guarantee product quality with a focus on engineering best practices (Clean Code, Testing, CI/CD) and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
You'll be great for this role if…
- Proven leadership experience as an Engineering Manager, with a background as a Senior Engineer with solid hands-on backend experience
- Comfort being hands-on when needed — architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical deep dives
- Experience leading medium-to-complex projects across multiple squads or domains, with a track record of delivering in cross-functional environments
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB, Redis), with experience in queues (SNS/SQS, RabbitMQ) and preferably streaming (Kafka)
- AWS or comparable cloud experience, with familiarity with modern cloud-native backend technologies — microservices, containers, and orchestration
- Advanced English proficiency, with the ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken form across global teams
Nice to have
- Experience in financial services or payments
- Familiarity with Golang, Kotlin, Python, or Elixir
- Knowledge of distributed systems and resilience patterns
